Beer and chocolates in Bruxelles

The Eurostar deposited us in Brussels at around 10 am and we plodded through the streets to our hotel which was supposed to be just off Grand Place. It was a steady drizzle and the sky was moderately dark, forecasting a day of rain. After reaching our hotel and depositing our luggage since the check in was only after 2, we headed off back to Grand Place to locate some Belgian beer bars.

Grand Place

After knocking back a Hoegaarden Rosée and some waffles, we walked around town and took in the usual sights. They were rather non-memorable, so I’ll not waste time blogging about it. Even the famous Mannekin Pis turned out to be a damp squib. It is tiny and frankly, I cant understand why its so famous. There were plenty of choocolatiers around and the products were simply mouth watering.

Dinner was at this really nice Ethiopian restaurant called Kokob, where both the veg and meat dishes were really spicy and tasty.

After taking in some more Belgian fruit beer at Moeder Lambic, supposedly one of the famous bars in the city, the day ended with plans for how to reach Amsterdam by train the next day.

i told you brussels was not worth a visit – bruges would have been a better bet – more picuresque with the canals etc

but amsterdam is by far the most charming city in europe after paris of course !!
